January Lawn Care Tips

Jan 30, 2018Lawn maintenance

Happy 2018! Now that we’re officially in the new year, it’s time to discuss our favorite topic: lawn care tips!

Ever since the holidays ended, it can be hard to find the motivation to get outside and start perfecting your landscape again.

Not to mention, many people get stuck during this time of year, wondering what they can possibly do to “spruce up” their yard while the snow is still falling and the chill is still in the air.

As it turns out, there are quite a few things you can do to help prepare your yard for spring, while simultaneously making it look as picturesque as possible. All you have to do it follow these…

January Lawn Care Tips

Mow The Lawn:

Although it may seem counterintuitive, mowing your lawn during a dry winter day can be one of the best things for it. That’s because it gives you the chance to rid your lawn of the pine needles and leaves its been collecting. It also helps you spot winter weeds you can uproot before the next snowfall.

Plant New Trees & Shrubs:

Now is a great time to evaluate your landscape and see what’s working (and what isn’t). Take this opportunity to rid your lawn of unattractive plants, and replace them with ones you love.

Tidy Up The Trees:

This goes for deciduous trees, in particular. Since these are dormant during the winter months, this gives you ample opportunity to get a jump-start on pruning your trees. Pruning in January can also be extremely good for the tree, as its sap won’t have risen yet (like it will during warmer months), thereby ensuring that none of its nutrients will have been wasted unnecessarily during the pruning process.

Although taking care of your yard can be a very enjoyable pastime, it can also be more of a burden than a pleasure during the cold winter months. With a constant nip in the air, it’s often far more tempting to stay inside with a cup of hot chocolate than to bundle up and maintain the yard.
